SGI CREATE NEW OPPORTUNITIES IN BLACKPOOL Mar 09 2009

Blackpool's regeneration body, ReBlackpool, has backed a leading property specialist's move into the town, saying it will create much needed opportunities in a run down area.
The former Blackpool Borough Council budget business centre located on Queen Street has been taken on by Kevin McCabe's Scarborough Group International (SGI), in their first move into the North West region, with the aim of attracting new businesses to the seaside town.
The 11,000 sq ft office space is situated near Blackpool's famous Golden Mile and will provide three floors of newly refurbished office accommodation which will be operated by Forsyth Business Centres, the serviced office arm of SGI.
Doug Garrett, Chief Executive of the Town's regeneration body, ReBlackpool said "It's fantastic that a high profile company such as SGI is looking at creating opportunities like this for businesses in the area. Blackpool's economy has seen a major decline in recent years. The job market has taken quite a hit, so this is just the kind of thing we want to see happening.
We need to see more businesses coming forward to take advantage of these opportunities in order to give the town the boost it needs and deserves. Things are starting to look up for Blackpool as the weak pound and the recession persuades more people to holiday in the UK instead of abroad. Travelodge has recently opened two new hotels in the town and the seafront is undergoing a massive £87 million redevelopment - scheduled to finish this year.
A high profile property company like SGI can help act as a catalyst for change, bringing new life to rundown areas of the town."
Chris Burke, Surveyor at SGI added "This is a fantastic opportunity for the Scarborough Group - the office suites are in a great location situated near to the North Pier and adjacent to the Golden Mile. It's also a great chance for businesses all over the North West to take advantage of a flexible office solution without committing to long term leases and heavy overheads. Blackpool is a town with the potential to capitalise on the recession. It's in a great location, with both Manchester and Liverpool less than an hour away. By takng on the former Council business centre we will be able to offer businesses a flexible office solution in a town on the rise."
